For The Love Of Bees - Beginner Beekeeping Course with Lachlan Cranitch | Northey Street City Farm | Saturday, 24. August 2019

A full day of hands on learning and beekeeping theory covering all you need to know to get started with beekeeping.
We will cover what to look for in hive health, types of hives, hive location, bee behaviour and how to respond to pests and diseases. Then suit up and get inside the hives at Northey St City Farm to do a live hive inspection.
Following a demonstration you will get the opportunity to practice building, wiring, putting foundation on a frame and extracting honey from some full frames.
Lachy is a passionate and experienced amateur beekeeper. He views responsible beekeeping as a form of animal husbandry and will introduce the main considerations of ethical beekeeping. His teaching style is careful not to prescribe to any particular dogma of beekeeping but to give a broad spectrum of approaches and considerations, giving you the information to feel confident as you embark on your own beekeeping journey. Suitable for the bee curious, the bee admirer and those ready to get some hives.
It is hoped you will walk out of this workshop with an informed responsibility as a beginner beekeeper and renewed sense of respect and awe for these magnificent creatures.
Please being a clean jar to take some honey home.
