Summer 2020 Class: Ship-in-a-Bottle | Chicago Maritime Museum | Thursday, 09. July 2020

Thursday afternoons from 1-3 pm or evenings from 6:30 pm-8:30 pm
Over the course of eight weeks, in two- hour sessions a week, students will learn to design and construct a simple ship-in-the-bottle using traditional methods and materials. By the end of the course, students will have completed a ship-in-the-bottle and will have learned the skills and techniques to design and construct future projects. 
The age range for this class is ten years old to *****. Skill range is “beginner,” or “all skill levels.”Students will come away with their completed ship-in-the-bottle and the skills necessary to design and construct further and more elaborate ships-in-the-bottle. Skills acquired during the course will include the ability to interpret drawings and/or photos of ships and boats of various kinds, selecting a bottle of a suitable shape for the intended subject and adapting the vessel to ship-in-the-bottle construction.Materials will be supplied for the class and will include bottles, wood, paint, glue, paper, thread, small carving tools, modeling clay.
