Politics in the Pub: Housing Stress in Hobart | The Duke | Thursday, 07. December 2017

While soaring house prices and rental yields are great news for property investors, the booming real estate market is creating and/or exacerbating housing stress for many people living in Hobart.

Keith Jacobs (Director, UTAS Housing and Community Research Unit), Pattie Chugg (Executive Officer, Shelter Tasmania) and Meredith Barton (Principal Solicitor, Tenants' Union of Tasmania) will join us at this month's Politics in the Pub, to discuss the housing stresses faced by the Hobart community and what can be done to improve the situation.
  • "Hobart has been ranked the second least affordable city in Australia behind only Sydney in the biannual Rental Affordability Index."
  • "When you hear from young people that they don’t know what to do, and where to go, what happens with that anger?”." As the gap between the haves and have-nots widens, we risk alienating a generation.
