Coming to Koorliny Arts Centre for the first time! The Sapphires is a multiple award-winning musical play written by Tony Briggs and produced by Christine Harris and Australia’s Premier Theatre Touring Company, HIT Productions.



Featuring a talented young ensemble of first nation performers in all the Indigenous Australian roles as well as multicultural performers, Tony Briggs will direct his play for the first time and head a highly credentialed Indigenous Australian directing and design team.



SYNOPSIS: Four young Aboriginal women from regional Australia, who like singing country music, suddenly get the chance to change their tune and their lives. Wearing sequins, and armed only with microphones they find themselves trying to spread joy in the **** that is the Vietnam War.



The Sapphires is a funny, heart-warming tale inspired by the true story of four Yorta Yorta Women, who sing classic soul hits against the backdrop of personal change and massive social upheaval. It is an energetic, fun and engaging play that affirms life and the realisation of dreams.
