Portraits Project – Greg Weight | Sunday, 23. August 2020

Hear Greg Weight ‘in conversation’ with the curator about the challenges of photographic portraiture and the stories behind the images.

About this Event

This event is part of The Portraits Project, on show 7 August – 18 October 2020.

This series of special exhibitions focussed on portraiture, in celebration of Manly Art Gallery & Museum’s 90 years, and as a powerful expression of many of the artists connected with Sydney’s Northern Beaches and with whom MAG&M has worked over the past decade. Fifteen self-portrait paintings and drawings by acclaimed Sydney artists working in this genre take centre place in the Batten gallery. A series of twenty commissioned photographic portraits by Greg Weight provides a snapshot of key practitioners living and working on the Northern Beaches now. Finally, an exhibition of six figurative works from MAG&M’s visual art collection intermingle with our museum objects collection to illuminate the key theme of ‘the beach’.

The represented artists in the portrait photography section are; Julia Davis, Shoufay Derz, Helen Earl, Katherine Edney, Ben Edols & Kathy Elliott, Salvatore Gerardi & Sandra Svilans, Mick Glasheen, Bruce Goold, Warren Langley, Chris Langlois, Helge Larsen & Darani Lewers, Kathrin Longhurst, Willi Michalski, Susan Milne & Greg Stonehouse, Michael Muir, John Ogden & Louise Whelan, Amanda Penrose Hart, Evert Ploeg, Sarah Robson, Mika Utzon Popov & Kirsten Fazio, **** Watkins, Jo & Joshua Yeldham and Salvatore Zofrea.

Numbers strictly limited to 30pp. Bookings essential.
