The Book of Mormon | Sydney Lyric Theatre | Sunday, 29. July 2018

Come out with us for an hysterical night at the Theatre!

Winner of 9 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, The Book of Mormon ingeniously delivers wit and humor. Created by masterminds Matt Stone and Trey Parker (South Park) and Robert Lopez (Avenue Q), this brilliant social and political satire brings black humour to the stage like never before.

It tells the story of two missionaries, who are sent to Uganda to try and convert local citizens to the Mormon religion. Upon their arrival in Africa, the two eager missionaries, Price and Cunningham, are met with a lack of interest from the locals, who are preoccupied with more pressing issues such as AIDS, famine and oppression from the local warlord. They quickly realize a successful mission may not be as easy as they expected.

After its debut in 2011, The Book of Mormon quickly garnered an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and viewers alike. Vulgar yet unexpectedly sweet, renowned chief theater critic for the The New York Times, Ben Brantley, has declared The Book of Mormon as this century’s best musical. The Book of Mormon is loved for its clever dialogue, witty and catchy songs, and overall ability to put anyone in a state of constant laughter.

The New York Times calls it "the best musical of this century." The Washington Post says, "It is the kind of evening that restores your faith in musicals." And Entertainment Weekly says, "Grade A: the funniest musical of all time.”

* Duration: 2 hours 20 minutes including 20 minute interval.

This is a fun hosted gay group outing. We will meet before the show for a glass of bubbles and then after the show, adjourn to a nearby watering hole to debrief and discuss the serious messages of the show. ;-)
